If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed, or read our other blog. You can also contact our sales team for more information. Thanks for visiting!
Beyond the health library content you have on your site, I imagine you have a lot of other interesting content that you want patients to know about. This could include press releases and updated programs and services content. You have spent a lot of time on this information, and think it will be valuable to people outside of your organization. The issue you are having is that nobody is really visiting this new content, so it sits there waiting for someone to accidentally stumble upon it. Very unfortunate.
There are several ways to let people know about this information. Search Engine Optimization is one, but there are others. Bookmarking is another option. It is actually a an important piece of search engine optimization, because it points links back to your site. Bookmarking, a.k.a. social bookmarking is when someone adds your link to their del.icio.us or other bookmarking accounts. Most of the time people will make their bookmarks public, so the whole world can see what they are interested in. That is what makes it social. There are hundreds of social bookmarking web sites ranging from Google Bookmarks to smaller sites such as Reddit, Furl and Magnolia. Digg is also a social bookmarking site, but is more focused on news than health content. Another good social bookmarking site especially for healthcare is StumbleUpon. This site has a very large, diverse following and they are continually looking for new and interesting information on the web.
How can this be done you ask… Well, one way is to add a social bookmarking button to your content, so that people can easily bookmark your content to their bookmark site of choice. See cool interactive button below… We use a tool called AddThis which provides many of the more noticeable bookmarking sites out there. There are several other good tools for this, such as FeedBurner, but AddThis has the cool interactive piece that makes it really easy. The code is really easy to add as well.
At the end of the day, the more avenues you have coming into your site, the better chance your site will be successful. The main concern you need to worry about is if you are posting quality content, and will your audience find it interesting. If it is neither, then it will not matter if you bookmark to all of the popular sites, or if you just keep it hidden on your site.
As with most of our posts, we can help.
