At HIMSS this week, Steve Case founder of Revolution Health discussed the need for people to be more empowered when it comes to their health. Revolution Health and WebMD have both been working hard to educate consumers and have gained quite a foothold in supplying healthcare content to consumers. This does not let hospitals off the hook. Hospitals are responsible for supplying their patients with well written, helpful content that gives people the information they need to make the right decisions. As people have to spend more on healthcare, they will want more information to make the right decisions. Only hospitals can provide that. Revolution Health and WebMD, can supply high-level content, but cannot supply the level of content needed for the patients in a hospital’s community.

Steve Case’s argument about empowering people with healthcare content can be found on the E-Health Insider site.
